I have a life i don't need a second!!

After the presentation that Jelena did about Virtual world and Second life games I still believe that this is something that will not help PR for this time period.

Virtual world is something that doesnt exist and gives you the impression of something that you dont have. Even companies looking to use Second Life just for market research may run into problems trying to apply their findings to the real world, where the psychographics and behavioral patterns are different(http://rssdiary.marketingstudies.net/content/second_life_2_how_can_marketers_take_advantage.php).

From my point of view i believe that this new technology will be used more in advertising than in public relations because it gives the opportunity to somehow feel the product you want to buy or use. Additionally i believe that it will be used more from men than from women because it is a game something that facinates them.

I still dont understand how it is useful to public relations but maybe i m wrong because it is too early. What do you think?

The current operation of ‘second Life’ does focus on marketing public relations, by encouraging other organisations to ‘invest’ on virtual lands, or on billboards to put their advertising on.

I think there are still some spaces for public relations people getting involved in this virtual world. For example, practitioners could learn from the public relations strategy conducted by the agencies hired by ‘second life’. Moreover, just as Jelena mentioned in her presentation, some NGOs have already realised the power of virtual life and launched the campaign in second life. Or they might think about using ‘second life’ to help the funding raising in the campaign.

Hi Giota! I don’t think it is too early, it is too late. The buzz around Second Life is long gone. A few years ago, companies would establish their presence in SL, and by doing that gain extensive media coverage in “traditional media”. Nowadays, nobody is impressed by that. On top of that, whatever you do in SL, it seems to offend someone in the community, and then they start blogging about it and complaining. Not to mention that there is a vast amount of virtual land in SL, so it is really hard to actually gather large number of avatars in one place.
However, I think it is useful for conducting lectures and seminars for audience scattered around the world.

Jelena i believe that you know more for SL than i do so i accept your opinion. May because i wasnt involved with this medium i dont understand how it works. I beleive that lectures and seminars are useful in order to educate people and make them undeerstand how it works and its possibilities.
